Description
Alicia was on her way home from town, several new items in the back of the truck when she saw the form in the ditch beside the road. A dog. Her curiosity peaked and she slowed down and turned on her blinker as she tried to tell what breed the poor unfortunate dog was.
A German Shepherd.
Her heart jumped when she recognized her absolute favorite breed of dog and she wasted no time in pulling over.
After checking to make sure it was safe to open the door she grabbed some of her lunch and cautiously approached the dog. Weakly, it raised it's head and thumped it's tail in greeting and stood up. Alicia fed it bits of her sandwich slowly that the grateful canine wolfed down, but was always careful to avoid her fingers.
"Poor girl, what are you doing out here by yourself?" She said scratching the dogs head. Brown eyes closed and a tail wagged even more as the dog enjoyed the attention. The sudden blaring of sideways made both of them jump and Alicia pulled out her cell phone.
"Nice timing Mike, I was about to call. Get a hold of Sherilynn and tell her to have her gear ready to look over a dog." Alicia said standing up. "No arguing, just do it" She snapped and closed the phone.
"Come here big girl." She said bending over and lifting the dog to her feet, she was maybe forty pounds. A minute later she was content in the front of the F-150 as Alicia pulled back onto the highway.

"There's no doubt about it, she pure Shepherd." Sherilynn said looking at the dog on the front porch.
"I haven't seen anything about a lost dog recently in any of the papers or any posters." Alicia said scratching the dogs head once more.
"Well, I guess we have a new member of the family then." Sherilynn said scratching the dogs head as well.
"What are you gonna name her?" Jake asked looking at the three.
"Miracle." Alicia said without a moments hesitation.

Over the next few weeks Miracle's coat got a healthy sheen to it once she had been given all her shots, wormed, and treated for her ear mites. And she also joined herself to Alicia and the two were never seen apart.
If Alicia spent hours in her office, Miracle would be found at her feet. If she was off on a trail ride Miracle would trot along right beside her and when she was working in a ring Miracle would lay right outside the gate. The horses quickly got used to the new companion and few even noticed when the dog joined them in the pasture with Alicia.
Sam's Dream, Alicia's favorite mare was gone, but a new companion had risen in her place when she was needed the most.
